Case Study: Waste Asphalt Regenerant Application in Urban Road Renovation

Green road construction and resource recycling have been deeply promoted in road engineering field, and the recycling utilization of waste asphalt pavement has gradually become a core link of infrastructure maintenance and renovation. In the renovation project of a municipal trunk road, there were prominent problems such as serious aging, hardening and cracking of old pavement, and low recycling efficiency of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP). Our company launched a targeted waste asphalt regenerant application scheme for this project, and successfully realized the efficient and high-quality recycling of waste asphalt materials.

The municipal trunk road has been put into use for more than 8 years. Long-term heavy traffic load, solar radiation, rain erosion and oxidative aging led to the serious loss of viscous components in the original asphalt binder, and the pavement's flexibility and stability decreased sharply. The project party put forward clear requirements: on the basis of ensuring the construction quality and service life of the road, increase the proportion of RAP reuse, cut down the consumption of new asphalt and aggregates, and reduce the environmental pollution caused by waste pavement disposal.

Our waste asphalt regenerant relies on the independently developed high-permeability active formula, which can quickly penetrate into the interior of aged asphalt, supplement the missing aromatic components, repair the damaged colloidal structure of asphalt, and restore the original adhesion and plasticity of aged asphalt. During the construction, the construction team first crushed and screened the recycled asphalt materials, then added the regenerant in strict accordance with the optimized proportion, and fully stirred it with new asphalt and graded aggregates to prepare recycled asphalt mixture. The whole mixing and paving operation was smooth, the regenerant had no irritating odor and no harmful volatile substances, which fully met the on-site environmental protection construction standards.

After the completion of the project, the third-party testing and later stage tracking inspection both showed that the road performance met the national standard specifications. The penetration, ductility and adhesion of the regenerated asphalt were completely restored to the level of new asphalt, the pavement surface was flat and compact, and the resistance to cracking, rutting and peeling was significantly enhanced. This project not only greatly improved the utilization rate of waste asphalt materials, saved a lot of engineering material costs, but also reduced the ecological pressure caused by the stacking and landfill of waste pavement, creating dual benefits of economy and environmental protection.

This practical application case fully verified the excellent performance and application feasibility of our waste asphalt regenerant in asphalt pavement recycling projects. Our company will continue to focus on the research and development and technical iteration of green asphalt materials, and provide more reliable, efficient and environmentally friendly material solutions for global road maintenance and construction projects.
