Butyl acetate It is a highly adaptable solvent with stable performance at low temperatures. It is a common organic is widely used in the paint, coating and cleaning industry to effectively dissolve and optimize product performance. In addition, it volatilizes quickly and has good safety, making it an ideal choice for many industries.
The main product characteristics as below
Middle evaporation rate
The evaporation rate of butyl acetate is usually used as an industry benchmark, defined as 1.0, what provides sufficient leveling time for coating, and no excessively prolonging the drying time. In different temperatures (15-35℃), the evaporation rate changes little, improving the stability of the construction process. Ideal volatilization gradient can be formed with fast drying solvents (acetone, MEK) and slow drying solvents (PMA, DBE).
Chemical reaction inertness
Free of active functional groups, good thermal stability. Relatively stable to oxygen and less to form peroxides.
Excellent resin compatibility and solubility
It has moderate polarity (dipole moment 1.8-2.0D) and Hansen solubility parameter (δ≈17.4 MPa¹/²), and has wide solubility in various polymers, such as nitrocellulose, acrylic resin, polyurethane, epoxy resin, cellulose acetate, etc. Can serve as a "universal" solvent base, reducing the types of solvents in the formula and simplifying the supply chain.
Low residue
The structure is simple, with almost no residue after volatilization, avoiding defects such as fogging and whitening of the coating. High purity products (>99.9%) can be used for electronic cleaning without leaving ion residues on precision components
No unpleasant odor
Compared to ketone solvents, it has a more acceptable fruit odor. Low acute toxicity (LD50>10g/kg orally in rats). Not included in the list of high-risk solvents, with less use limitation in most regions

Application
Metal cleaner
It can be used for degreasing and cleaning of metal parts, and can quickly dissolve the residual oil and cutting fluid in the process of mechanical processing, so as to ensure the cleanliness of metal surface and facilitate subsequent coating or welding.

Coating
Acrylic or polyurethane coatings used on ABS and PS plastic surfaces provide good wetting and adhesion, avoiding corrosion of plastic substrates. Replace some xylene in anti-corrosion coatings for bridges and storage tanks to reduce environmental toxicity while maintaining solubility.

Car paint
As the main solvent with a medium boiling point, it provides excellent leveling properties in the topcoat, making the aluminum powder of the metallic paint more evenly oriented and achieving a full metallic effect

Optical lens
Dissolve optical grade acrylic resin to prepare a high transparency anti reflection coating with low residual properties that do not affect optical performance.
Used for cleaning glass substrates, removing grease and quickly evaporating without leaving any traces, providing a clean surface for vacuum coating.

FAQ
Q: Is butyl acetate compatible with plastic parts on precision circuit boards during electronic component cleaning?
A: ABS, PC and other engineering plastics are not corrosive, but after cleaning, it needs to be dried quickly to prevent moisture adsorption.
Q: Is the low temperature tolerance up to standard in aerospace composite coating?
A: N-BUTYLACETATEESTER is not crystallized at-50℃, but it needs to be combined with low temperature resistant resin (such as fluorocarbon resin) to avoid coating brittleness and peeling.
Q: How to improve the coating uniformity in UV curing adhesive? Should it be stored in the dark?
A: As a diluent to reduce viscosity and avoid sagging, it should be stored in the dark to prevent the photo-initiator from reacting prematurely and no residue after curing.
Q: In automotive painting, can it replace the traditional solvent? What is the effect on the gloss of the paint film?
A: It can be used as a medium volatile solvent to balance the drying speed and leveling, and the gloss of the film is high. However, the proportion should be controlled to avoid orange peel phenomenon.
Q: What indicators should be paid special attention to when purchasing butyl acetate for food packaging related inks?
A: The food contact grade should be selected. It is necessary to confirm the indicators of "heavy metals (such as lead, mercury) and residual solvents" and comply with the requirements of GB 4806.10-2022 (coatings for food contact) to avoid ink migration and contamination of food.
Q: In addition to industrial use, where else can it be found in daily life?
A: It may be contained in nail polish, nail polish water and detergent. It mainly uses its strong dissolving power and fast volatilization characteristics. Attention should be paid to ventilation when using it.
